ALAMBRISTA! is about the people who feed others but cannot feed themselves, who move without freedom, who have to seek to survive at the expense of their own heritage. Robert M. Young, one of America's leading "independent" filmmakers, tells the story of an illegal immigrant, a farm worker from Mexico, and focuses on the uniqueness and the universality of his experience. Featuring a cast of extremely talented Hispanic and Anglo actors and actresses, this is one man's inspired vision of life as it almost certainly is for many humans, whether Mexican, Cuban or Vietnamese. Roberto Ramirez slips into California at night and enters the world of migrant workers, meeting unforeseen hazards and shocks in his quest for a better life. What security he manages to find is torn away by deportation, and the cycle begins again.
