Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Czechoslovakian film industry, MAGICIANS OF THE SILVER SCREEN is an enchanting tribute to the passionate and obsessive pioneers of filmmaking. Academy Award-winning director Jiri Menzel (1966's "Closely Watched Trains" and 1968's "Capricious Summer") honors these wizards in MAGICIANS OF THE SILVER SCREEN. Menzel both directs and stars in this lighthearted comedy about a young man swept away by the romance of filmmaking. The film draws its inspiration from the excitement and enthusiasm of turn-of-the-century Prague. It is not a reconstruction of events and lives, but rather an evocation and a celebration, a comic reenactment of pioneer filmmaking crafted in the style of the early one-reelers.
