Jean and Lisa have been living together happily for 10 years. They are liberal intellectuals and probably considered themselves revolutionary in the watershed year of 1968. Jean suggests to Lisa one day that she should try love with another man. When Lisa, somewhat unwillingly, falls in love with a virile book thief named Karl, Jean and their home life go to pieces. This is a love story with slight overemphasis, overdone gestures and dialogue and great stylistic precision. It is not only a love story, but a model love story not just confined to the lives of Jean and Lisa. The title is, of course, meant ironically.
