Most 65 year olds look forward to retirement as a time for rest and relaxation . . . a time for watching the world go by. But for Afonso, his 65th year is a time of discovery, as he begins to realize the complexities of his friends' lives. Seemingly ordinary people become extraordinary, and Afonso finds himself involved in the intrigue of abduction and possible murder. He also discovers the time for love. Director Carlos Diegues (1980's "Bye Bye Brasil") examines the differences between reality and illusion in this compelling film, a brilliant example of the Brazilian Cinema Novo that began in the mid-Sixties.
