Renowned Polish actor Jerzy Stuhr's debut film is an amusing, personal work that benefits from warm humor and a lightly ironic touch. Gustav, a Cracow professor, is assigned to show visiting Swedish professor Bjorn the town and cater to his every wish. Bjorn soon tires of historical lectures on Polish heroes and suggests spending the evening with an attractive woman, a task that proves beyond the skills of the dry academic. His search takes Gustav through the contents of his address book, with each phone call plunging him into memories of loves past. Gustav at last reaches back to his youthful liaison with Isa, whom he last saw when she was writing her dissertation on the mating habits of geese. Time has not been kind to Isa, and the cosmopolitan Bjorn is politely horrified at the prospect of an evening with the overweight hausfrau, while Gustav fondly and forgivingly remembers the voluptuous coed of the past. Gustav is essentially an innocent, whose wry view of the world gives THE LIST OF ADULTRESSES its self-mocking charm. In English, and Polish with English subtitles.
