This visually mesmerizing film by Danny Boyle (?Shallow brothers, Anthony (9) and Damian (7) Grave,? ?Trainspotting,? ?28 Days Later?) is described by Boyle himself as a cross between ?Amelie? and ?Trainspotting.? Two motherless are recipients of a big bag of money ($411,000-plus) that literally falls from the sky. But the Euro goes to effect in just a week, and the boys have vastly different ideas of how to spend it. Sweet-hearted Damian, who is visited by saints, wants to donate the money to the poor. Anthony, a budding entrepreneur, wants to spend it. It also occurs to them that someone may be missing the money. An evil-looking pauper starts stalking them, and a charity worker begins to take unusual interest in the boys. When St. Francis of Assisi shows up, it?s time to help the poor, but that?s easier said than done. Boyle?s allowed a lot of computer-generated imagery, which only enhances the charming script by Frank Cottrell Boyce (?24-Hour Party People?).
