As a recent film school graduate and aspiring screenwriter, all Cole can think about is getting his “in” in the industry. Unimpressed with the dull normalcy of his classmates and peers, the pretentious, overly confident twenty-something dreams up scenarios that allow him to stand out from the crowd and to grab the attention of his Hollywood idols. Cole’s film-inspired plotlines live mostly in his head until one fateful night when the perfect opportunity falls right into his lap. Almost as if it came right out of a movie, at his graduation reception, Cole sparks a flirtatious conversation with Haley, who is not only beautiful, smart, and talented, but also happens to be the daughter of Cole’s screenwriting hero. Taking full advantage of this fateful “meet-cute,” Cole hatches an elaborate plan to woo Haley as a way to meet her dad. Although Cole’s love scheme is filled with romantic clichés, clever banter, and plenty of serendipity, like all classic rom-coms, things don’t go according to plan. Whimsical, heartfelt, and fully self-aware, ALL ABOUT WHO YOU KNOW is a romantic comedy for dreamers and cynics alike. — G.S.
