In 2015 a deadly fire broke out in the popular Colectiv nightclub in Bucharest, claiming 26 lives in one night. Although survivors were promised the highest quality care, 38 additional burn victims lost their lives in the weeks that followed… but not due to their initial injuries. In fact, many of the Colectiv patients who died did not enter the hospitals with life-threatening burns. These fully preventable deaths resulted from a lack of resources, a lack of transparency, and rampant bacterial infections through Romanian hospitals. This unthinkable tragedy prompted a journalistic investigation revealing the widespread corruption and bribery taking place on nearly every level of the Romanian healthcare system, and the cover-up that followed. A gripping investigative documentary, COLLECTIVE unfolds like a suspenseful crime narrative, revealing a multitude of shocking truths about the Romanian healthcare system and the rotting layers of corruption within.
