For many artists and performers living with disabilities, leading roles and professional careers in the spotlight are few and far between. Cue Denver’s Phamaly Theatre Company, comprised entirely of actors with disabilities, which creates a supportive space for artists to pour themselves into their craft and thrive. The company’s artistic director, Regan, leads a passionate group of talent in their own rendition of Chicago, America’s longest-running musical in Broadway history. Cast members manage a variety of disabilities, including cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis, blindness, and autism. But personalities take center stage when these individuals reveal themselves through their creative process and in their everyday lives. Through day jobs, budding romances, and uniquely challenging days of rehearsal, IMPERFECT follows the company behind the scenes leading up to the highly-anticipated Opening Night. Regardless of their exceptional talent and inspiring resilience, the cast reveals vulnerable moments of significant self-doubt. But, as with any production and unexpected obstacles, they know the show must go on. —A.B.
