What does it mean when an in-person screening is on Stand By?
Only a portion of the in-person tickets to a CIFF46 @ PSQ (March 31-April 9, 2022) in-person screening are sold in advance so we can save room for our passholders who do not have to indicate in advance which screenings they will be attending. As a result, even for crowded screenings, we can often accommodate additional patrons just before show time.
Once all regular tickets to an in-person screening have sold, a film goes on Stand By. For screenings on Stand By, numbered Stand By tickets are sold beginning one hour before show time (be aware that a line sometimes forms earlier than this) at the Stand By Boothlocated outside of the Outcault Theatre at Playhouse Square.
Just before show time, if seats are available after passholders and ticket holders have been admitted, Stand By ticket holders are admitted, in numerical order, on a space-available basis until the theater is full.
On the rare occasion that a screening reaches capacity, a film will then be SOLD OUT. Those who are not admitted receive a replacement voucher or cash refund. Cash or vouchers only; no checks or credit cards accepted at Stand By.
Hint: buy your tickets early or, better yet, become a passholder-level member to avoid Stand By and Sell Outs!
